Our Story
WE ARE EXCITED TO ANNOUNCE NEW OWNERS!
After more than 20 years of ownership by Diane and Rob, Woodland Motor Lodge is beginning an exciting new chapter with Carrie and Steve Ball of Roscommon.
For years, Woodland has been known as more than just a place to stay. Guests have returned year after year for the peaceful wooded setting, spotless accommodations, and welcoming Northern Michigan atmosphere. Families, snowmobilers, anglers, paddlers, hunters, and travelers alike have made lasting memories around the lodge’s cabins, firepit, and courtyard.
Now, Carrie and Steve Ball plan to continue that tradition while bringing fresh energy to the property.
“Woodland Motor Lodge already has a soul,” said Carrie Ball. “You can feel it the moment you arrive. We aren’t looking to change what people love about Woodland — we want to preserve it, celebrate it, and thoughtfully build on it.”
The Balls, who also own the TeePee Motel, Northport Inn, and several vacation rentals throughout Northern Michigan, are passionate about creating welcoming, community-focused lodging experiences.
“We love Northern Michigan and the small-town communities that make this region so special,” said Steve Ball. “People come here to reconnect — with nature, with family, and with a slower pace of life. Woodland already represents that spirit, and we’re honored to become part of its story.”
Future plans include thoughtful updates while keeping the relaxed, rustic Northern Michigan character guests have come to love. Most importantly, the welcoming culture created by Diane and Rob will remain at the heart of Woodland Motor Lodge for years to come.
